In the Wimbledon 2008 Championships the total amount of wimbledon prize money that was awarded to the competitors was a staggering £11,812,000. The Wimbledon 2010 prize is set to be a record amount. As you can see below the wimbledon winner for any category is winning an increased amount year on year. This helps draw the best tennis players from around the world hoping to be a wimbledon winner. Prize money was very first awarded over 40 years ago in 1968. This is when the first professional tennis players were allowed to compete in the Wimbledon Championships. As well as the prize money, the winners of the men's Doubles, Ladies Doubles, and Mixed Doubles also receive silver cups. The runners up in each of these events receive an inscribed silver plate. So it's not all about the money, there is also silver trophies!
